Useful information regarding funerals.

I am increasingly aware that funeral patterns are changing. there are many families choosing to have cremations without a funeral. This can mean that loved ones are left grieving without any real ending. There are a whole range of options available from your local church.

As a church we want to be there for our local communities and to offer families support during difficult times. We are happy to offer Christian funerals in any of our church buildings or at local crematoria. However, there are other options as well. We can provide funeral or memorial services in our churches with the ashes, rather than a coffin, after an unattended cremation. Alternately, we can inter (bury) ashes in our beautiful village churchyards. We are not allowed to scatter ashes in the churchyards. Burial or interment of ashes is open to all members of our communities and is not limited to those who attend church. Please speak to Revd Coryn if you wish to have ashes buried in the churchyard as there are procedures to follow.

There are other possibilities as well. A few months ago, I blessed a tree planted as a memorial to a deceased lady, where no funeral had been held, in a private garden in one of our villages. We followed the tree blessing with a gathering of friends and neighbours in the garden.

Please get in touch to discuss what the local church can offer you in times of grief.
Revd Coryn.
